Most of what we call "getting old" is a signal with a name — and usually with something to be done about it.
First — the ones that can't wait at all.
This list is for things you've been living with for a while. If any of these is happening right now, don't use this list. Call 911 (999 in the UK, 000 in Australia):
Chest pain or pressure, or pain spreading to your arm, jaw, neck or back
Sudden weakness on one side, a drooping face, or slurred speech
Sudden severe headache, or sudden loss of vision
Severe trouble breathing that came on suddenly
Women often have heart attacks without chest pain — sudden nausea, a cold sweat or unusual exhaustion can be the only signs.
How to use this: check every signal you've noticed in yourself over the past few months. Be honest — nobody sees this but you. It takes about two minutes.
